Rhyd-y-Groes Touring Park Welshpool Powys Wales. We have just spent 5 nights at this lovely site in our tent on pitch 18 not the camping field so this review is solely based on that. In arrival the owner Helen gave us all the information that we needed and showed us our very large private grass pitch. The pitch was in a lovely spot with glorious views with plenty of space to relax outside the tent. There is 1 urinal, toilet and shower in the male area (can't comment for the ladies), there is a large disabled wet room with toilet and sink. You also have a large kitchen area with 3 sinks, freezer, fridge, kettle and microwave, there is dvds and games too. You can rent a satellite dish and box for £2 per day. Some road noise but not so it spoils your stay. Welshpool is 15 mins drive and Newtown 17 miles. I would stop here again but only on that pitch. The camping field is next to a busy road so I would so road noise would be more of an issue. All piches have EHU. This site is dog friendly and there is a large enclose field for them. The owners never seem to stop working. www.rhyd-y-groes.co.uk/

Woodlands Caravan Park near Aberystwyth As the name suggests this is predominantly a static caravan park but they have a small grass area for camping and a few hard standing pitches for tourers. You can pitch where you want but it is fairly limited and not very flat, EHU is available. The shower/toilet facilities are outstanding, very clean huge shower rooms with plenty of space for dressing, there is underfloor heating as well which is lovely on a chilly morning. The pot wash is under cover and there is a laundrette and a communal freezer. There is a small play area for young children on the tent field. Dogs are allowed. The shop on site is very poorly stocked and expensive. The café isn't owned or run by the site and I can't comment on the food as it was closed most of the time we were there. Attractions nearby include Devils Bridge (5mins walk) and Rheidol Narrow Gauge Steam Train Undecided as to whether I would return. www.woodlandsdevilsbridge.co.uk/

CARDIFF CARAVAN PARK
(Stayed Aug 2016)
The bad points unfortunately outweigh the good points at this park.
On arrival we were greeted by a lovely lady who was so kind and accommodating. The reception block looked lovely from the outside with the bike hire to the back of the building.
Our pitch was very close to the ablution block at the far side of the site.
It became apparent very quickly that caravans, motor homes and tents were basically on top of each other. It was quite frightening really. Every site we've stayed at to date has a distance rule, be it 3 meters or 6 meters for safety reasons if nothing else!!!
Our pitch was under an acorn tree and the ground was dirt, compacted dirt! So it was obvious that the pitch is given no recovery time whatsoever. Pitching was quite easy and there appeared to be no resistance for our pegs but the ground was very very uneven and I had to remove many shape stones before we started pitching.
The reviews of the bathrooms had caused us concern and rightly so. The best description would be "public toilets". There were 3 toilets, 2 showers and 4 wash basins. I'm afraid to say that the block was dirty, dirty in the sense it needed a deep clean and a good lick of paint. Even though we were in a tent and so reliant on the washing facilities we decided to have strip washes in the tent rather than use the facilities.
There are no "noise" rules on this site. Most sites have noise rules from 10:30pm until 7am (or similar) to ensure that campers can settle down for the night without being disturbed. You also find that on most sites campers will be respectful of each other when it starts getting dark when it comes to noise levels.....not on this site!!! We had cars entering and leaving the site at 2am and 6am which is no joke when you're in a tent. Car doors being slammed at 12:15am and people talking loudly when going to the toilets etc. No respect at all.
The site is unsecured 24hrs a day. There is no barrier to enter the site and you can literally just walk into the site without question. This is a huge security issue, so much so that you have to use a key code to enter the toilets!!!! We did not feel safe leaving our tent in the early hours to go to the bathroom.
The other fear I had was how close we were to our neighbours. If there had been a fire in one of the caravans or our tent there would have been no fire break between us and the end result would have been catastrophic. We were less than a meter and a half away from our neighbours!!
The site is unbelievable close to Cardiff City Centre, and really is a 15 minute walk as advertised. What you do need to be aware of tho is that this walk is through Bute Park which has no lighting at all. Once it's dark this walk becomes very frightening.
We were on a supposed grass electric pitch which set us back £30 a night. The only thing that made this price bearable was the convenience with regards to the distance from Coopers Field, where we were attending an event. The site and its facilities are definitely not worth £30 a night.

SHELL ISLAND, LLANBEDR, Nr HARLECH
THIS WAS OUR FIRST EVER CAMPING TRIP....WE DO THINGS VERY DIFFERENTLY NOW LOL!!
Having never camped properly before we decided to give Shell Island a try as campers and locals had been singing it's praises for years.
We had a party of 3 x adults and 3 x children and an assistance dog. We decided to take two decent sizes tents to make sure we had enough room. You are charged by the person not by the tent.
Checking in was quick and simple.
It was fairly busy on the island and we did have a bit of a problem finding a sheltered area to pitch. Some parts near the sand dunes were even water-logged. We eventually found a place that was also only a short walk from the toilets and a water tap. It was a bit exposed but we had a hedge to the back of us which afforded us some shelter.
The toilets did block a few times in the 3 days we were there. This was due to irresponsible, selfish campers emptying chemical toilets into them. The units were however unblocked and fully functioning again within a short time.
There was a minimal amount of rubbish around the site but I did not see any broken glass or dog mess in the field we were in. The beach was also in a decent condition when it came to rubbish.
We had 2 quiet nights (apart from the wind) and had no issues with campers making excessive noise.
We did not use any of the Islands facilities apart from the camping shop to buy a wind break.
Would we go again??? YES, we can't wait to book our next holiday here and it will be for a lot longer than 3 days.
Stayed August 2014
